K-Pop Songs: L – Love and Affection by SEOHYUN

The fact that I have a SNSD member in this list is a shock to even me. For those of you who don’t know – I’m not a massive follower of Girls Generation or girl groups in general. For some reason I struggle with them a lot of the time but I’m trying to get more used to them.

Seohyun’s solo took my breath away and as soon as I heard this album I fell in love. I know Taeyeon gets a lot of attention through her solo activities but to me, Seohyun’s album was more my cup of tea, hence why Love and Affection is featured in this list.

ALBUM: Don’t Say No

This album was released 17 January, 2017 with title song Don’t Say No. Although I do really like the title song as well, nothing could prepare me for how great the rest of the album was going to be but Love and Affection in particular made me a fan instantly.

As I mentioned at the start, I’m not a huge fan of girl groups. I know the title songs of current girl groups and those that are active at the moment but because I came to the K-Pop game only two years ago, I missed the hype that was SNSD. To be honest, I couldn’t tell you all the members names immediately – I’d need a solid 10 mins to name them all.

I fell in love with Seohyun through watching her on We Got Married with Yonghwa – I love him so much! I soon fell for this shy maknae through watching her on that show but I still didn’t know how talented she was vocally. Until Don’t Say No came out…

Her voice is so strong in general but in Love and Affection I was almost whiplashed at how well she sings but also how she uses it. I don’t know if I should give credit to the song or her voice because Seohyun pushes her voice to such a high point during the choruses when there’s barely any music which gives me chills every time I hear it.

I mentioned at the start that I rate Seohyun higher than Taeyeon vocally but I have to give credit where credits due. Taeyeon is so easily able to reach high notes but I also think the delicacy she can make her voice sound is really great as well. I think my main problem with her is the fact that people are so in love with her – Taeyeon and Yoona are, in my opinion, the most famous members in SNSD and I hate that other members are kind of put in the background a lot.

Seohyun’s use of her voice throughout this album is so fantastic and if you haven’t heard the album yet, you need to. She’s absolutely amazing!

There isn’t a MV for this song but please watch the lyric video down below!
