STRAY KIDS last comeback “My Pace” was fantastic so I was excited to see which direction they’d go in this time – another fast-paced song or may try a different vibe. I still have yet to learn all their names so you’ll have to excuse me. I keep saying I’ll learn their names but I haven’t got around to it yet. So again, I’m very, very sorry!
Like my MONSTA X “Shoot Out” review – see (here) – I have seen this MV a couple of times so calling it a MV First Look doesn’t apply. I don’t know if this is going to be a common theme with these ‘first looks’ from now but sometimes I can’t help but rewatch an MV as soon as I see it the first time.
I like how there is that continuity with their previous releases – the small stems of “My Pace” as well as the video camera filters used in their previous MVs. It’s a nice touch and I appreciated hearing and seeing it.
I like how there is that deep and slow bass used through the song as it does give a nice ambiance which ends up being perfect for their vocal line. The chorus is stellar and it gave me goosebumps every time I heard it. What does annoy me a little bit is the random “you” adlib in the background. I don’t know why I find it annoying, maybe it’s the Souljah Boy flashback I have when I hear it…
What I really enjoy about this song is its change in direction from their first comeback. It does still have elements of the STRAY KIDS I’ve learnt from their releases. It is on the slower side but I like how their vocal line gets their shine on and I’m always interested in seeing what a rap-line can do on such a slow song.
In saying that, Chan took my breath away. And I don’t think it’s because he’s my bias. His voice sounds like butter in this song and I have to say I’ve never noticed that quality of his voice. Another member that stood out to me was Minho. I don’t really remember him too much from their other songs, other than visually, so it was nice that I got to get a sense of his vocal timbre. Hopefully I’ll keep it in mind going forward.
Even though this isn’t a large review, theres nothing more I can say about it. I loved it and I can’t wait to hear the album. Even though I was a fan of their debut album more than their comeback one, I’m still super interested in this album. Maybe even more so because of the different style this comeback is in. I’m intrigued!
Like the MONSTA X First Listen, the first listen review will be up over the next few days. I won’t be paying too much attention to their translations which does cut down the work I have to do to write the review by half. In saying that, I am busy tomorrow night so wont be able to write anything until a couple days time. But it is coming!
