I’ve been a fan of EDEN since last year when I reviewed his album Ryu:川 – read review (here) – which came out in February 2018. I love his voice and how it’s not a voice I hear often when it comes to Korean music and I think a lot of people would enjoy him. So for those who are fans of Korean R&B or just a downright talented vocalist – EDENs for you!
I was so excited when I started seeing the teaser videos on YouTube for this new release. His last album was one of my top albums of last year so I was beyond excited. For those of you who are wondering where you may have heard EDENs name – he’s under KQ Entertainment with ATEEZ as his younger label mates (Hongjoong also promoted him on their Twitter account) as well as writing some songs for the group as well. He’s amazing, I promise!
EDENs second EP Exhalant was released 15 March 2019 with title track “Suffering For Love”. While the album is only 4 tracks long I’m expecting it to blow me away. As I mentioned it above, and will a lot more after this, I love him with a passion and think everyone else would too. I can’t wait to be blown away by this mini!
“Suffering For Love” is great and I enjoy the song a lot, MV included. I love the guitar in the start and can already tell this album is different than his previous one. The intensity of this song is good and goes harder in the chorus while still being able to drift back into its original sound in the verses. He sounds different to me in this song and I don’t know if it’s because it’s been a minute since I heard his first EP but whatever the case he has a totally different vibe with this track.
Second track “Killing Me Softly” sounds exactly like what I know of him – slow, soulful and vocally exceptional. He has such a nice calming voice and I love when he does these slower ballads. As I mentioned before, he has a voice not often heard in recent Korean music and I love he’s doing his own thing. He shows a power in his voice here which I don’t think I’ve picked up on before. It’s a beautiful song!
“3 Things” sounds like a western pop song and in all the best ways. The verses are catchy and showcase all the important traits you’d need for radio play. From someone who doesn’t listen to the radio…I would if this song was on it. The pre-chorus is so good, the brief pause right before the chorus comes in has me frowning over how good it is and how much I love it. I think the featuring artist Maddox adds a little something to the song but I almost feel like it takes me out of it. It’s short-lived of course but strange nonetheless.
Last track “I’m Yours” is a similar genre to “Killing Me Softly” which I love. I’ve noticed he’s used guitar a lot in this album which I don’t remember from his earlier work but I love how it pairs well with his voice. The english in this song is making my heart hurt. I love love!!
This album is definitely one of the best albums I’ve heard all year. For some reason I find myself liking it more knowing it only has four tracks. I’ve loved him for over a year now and this album just solidified his talent and how much I wish people would get knee-deep into his music. This is very much my style of music so I’m in heaven the whole way through.
MY RATING: 10/10
